Red Shoulder Rotkeil Severum

Remarks: We finally have a pure strain of the Red Shoulder Rotkeil Severum, a very beautiful and rare fish fish in the hobby. The Rotkeil Severum is a large cichlid from Peru and other parts of the Amazon that has spectacular colors. They are sometimes referred to as "Necktie severums" due to the reddish-orange band that extends from the top of their head to the bottom of their chin. These severums are sometimes confused with hybrid red shoulder severums, but can be told apart by their 8 vertical stripes and how the Rotkeil has a much larger orange/red patch. Like other severums, Rotkeil severums are fairly easy-going but get large so they should not be kept with smaller fish such as small tetras that can fit in their mouths.
