Remarks: The red leporinus is native to Bahia, Brazil, and is rare within the hobby. Therefore, not much is known about it, especially in regards to care. It is likely they behave similar to other species of leporinus in that they can be nippy toward fish with long fins and are best kept in groups of 5 or more.
Red leporinus have silver or gold bodies with three black spots along their lateral line, a larger one under the dorsal fin, a mid-sized one under the adipose fin, and then the smallest one right at the base of the caudal fin. When in the right conditions, their fins are a nice reddish-orange color that stands out nicely against a black background.
