Remarks:  A perfect starter fish! Guppies (Poecilia reticulata) are peaceful community fish that reproduce with ease. They are livebearers, meaning the females release live fry rather than laying eggs. It is recommended to keep more females than males, as males can easily harass females with relentless attempts to reproduce, leading to stress in the females.

For most strains, males are very colorful while the females remain a gray or silver color. However, there are some exceptions to this rule so sexing these fish is best done by looking at the anal fin. The females will have short, rounded triangle shaped anal fins with a black spot on the body directly above it, these are her female reproductive organs. Males will have long, thin, pointed anal fins that form his male reproductive organs called the gonopodium.

The full gold line of guppies is a fairly new one. For a time they were only bred overseas in a few Indo-Asian countries but have recently begun to be bred by American breeders. These guppies are known for their vibrant yellow color that sometimes is present even in the females.

Males from this line have stunningly bright yellow/gold bodies that can sometimes appear shiny. Females usually develop some color in the fins and also have the chance to have a yellow body, but are more likely to remain gray in the body.
