Remarks: Acestrorhynchus nasutus is a rare species of characin from Peru. These "Freshwater Barracudas" are obligate piscivores and require live foods when first introduced to the aquarium. Some may be able to wean onto frozen meats. With their strong jaws and sharp teeth, they are capable of eating fish larger than their mouths very easily.

The Dwarf Freshwater Barracuda has two black stripes along their body - one from the snout, through the eye, to the caudal peduncle, and one along the abdomen. They also have a yellow spot on the caudal fin below the black end of the stripe, and a red spot just above it.

This species reportedly stays under 6", which makes them perfect for aquarists wishing to keep a predatory fish in a smaller tank. They enjoy lots of tall, thin plants to hide in, emerging out to feed when they notice prey coming too close.
